Biology and pharmacology of platelets

The research themes of team 1 focus on the study of the molecular and cellular mechanisms, both normal and pathological, involved in haemostasis and thrombosis in humans and in experimental animal models.

A major effort of our research focuses on the role of platelet adhesion and activation receptors in haemostasis, thrombosis and in non-haemostatic functions such as anaphylaxis and tumor metastasis. We have a large number of animal models at hands to evaluate new targets and new anti-thrombotic compounds. Our transfusion research aims at the biochemical and functional characterization of transfusion products and theirimprovement, as well as the study of the pathophysiological mechanisms of post-transfusion events such as alloimmunization or Transfusion Related Acute Lung Injury (TRALI).
